A GPS tracker has one power source, one ground, one ignition reference, two antennas, and — depending on configuration — a relay in the ignition circuit, a sensor in the fuel tank, and a camera on the windscreen. Every one of those connections is a decision, and every decision has a wrong answer that only reveals itself later: power taken from a circuit that sleeps kills the tracker at night; a poor ground writes phantom positions across the map; ignition sensed from the wrong wire logs the radio as a journey; an immobiliser relay wired without safe-stop logic is a hazard rather than a control; and an uncalibrated fuel sensor produces confident nonsense that poisons every fuel report downstream.

Professional installation is the discipline of getting all of those decisions right, invisibly, in a hostile environment — heat, vibration, moisture, mechanics, and, for many of the fleets we serve, a driver or renter with a motive to find the device. Kendaall’s installation standard covers the four layers that decide a tracker’s working life: concealment (placement and wire-dressing that survive a deliberate search), electrical integrity (fused, soldered or properly crimped connections to correct circuits, with the vehicle’s own systems — airbags, CAN bus, alarms — left undisturbed), peripheral precision (relays, fuel sensors calibrated against measured fills, dashcams aimed and paired, RFID readers positioned for daily use), and verification — the device must report position, ignition, alerts, and sensor data live on the platform, watched together with you, before the job is closed and the installation record written.

How an Installation Runs

From Booking to Live Dashboard in Six Steps

  1. Configuration & booking

    Book online, call, or WhatsApp with the vehicle or asset type and what you need it to do — we confirm the right device and add-ons from the shop range, the price from the pricing page, and a slot at the workshop or your location.

  2. Pre-fit inspection

    The technician surveys the vehicle’s electrics and agrees any specifics with you — placement constraints, insurer requirements, existing alarm systems, and (for fleets) which vehicles carry which configuration.

  3. Concealed fitting & wiring

    Device placed beyond the common search points, connections fused and soldered or properly crimped to correct constant-power, ignition, and ground circuits, wiring dressed into the factory loom. 45–90 minutes for cars and bikes; up to 120 for machinery with sensors.

  4. Peripherals & calibration

    Immobilisation relay wired and physically tested; fuel sensors fitted and calibrated against measured fills; dashcams aimed and paired; RFID readers positioned — each peripheral verified individually before the system test.

  5. Live verification — together

    The device must report position, ignition state, alert events, and every sensor live on the platform while you watch. The immobiliser is commanded and confirmed. Nothing is signed off on “it should be fine.”

  6. Handover, training & record

    Your app is set up on your phone, alerts configured to your preferences, and you leave with a dated installation certificate — the document your insurer wants and your resale buyer will value. Fleet clients get per-vehicle records in their fleet management account.

What Owners Ask Before Booking

Can you install a tracker I bought elsewhere, or only Kendaall devices?

We install devices from our own shop and reputable third-party units alike — the installation standard is the same either way. Two honest caveats: unknown-brand devices get a bench check first (some imports are unfit for immobiliser duty), and hardware bought from us carries the Kendaall warranty with platform support included, which is usually the better total price once subscriptions are compared.

Will the installation affect my car’s warranty, electronics, or insurance?

No — and this is much of what you’re paying a professional for. Connections are made at approved points with in-line fusing, the vehicle’s CAN bus, airbag, and alarm systems are left undisturbed, and the work closes with a dated installation certificate. If your insurer mandates a tracking device, tell us at booking: the certificate is written to satisfy the policy condition, and many insurers offer premium discounts our clients claim with that exact document.

How concealed is “concealed”? My last tracker was found by a mechanic in five minutes.

A mechanic with the dash apart will always be able to find a tracker eventually — the standard we build to is different: the device must survive a motivated search under time pressure, which means non-obvious placement, factory-style wire dressing, and no telltales at the usual five spots. For genuinely adversarial situations — hire fleets, financed vehicles — the answer is layered: the concealed primary plus a covert backup unit, so finding one device still doesn’t silence the vehicle.

Do you come to us? We have 40 vehicles and can’t send them anywhere.

Yes — fleet installation is on-site by design. A team fits 10–20 units per day at your yard, terminus, farm, or site, scheduled in batches around your operations (overnight, off-peak, rest days, term breaks), with per-vehicle records landing in your fleet account as each unit goes live. Multi-site organisations get a rollout plan across locations; request it through the fleet quote form.

How long does it take, and can I wait?

Most cars are done in 45–60 minutes, motorcycles in under 45, and machinery or sensor-equipped vehicles within two hours — you’re welcome to wait at the workshop, and the final step happens with you anyway: the live verification where you watch your own vehicle report on your own phone before signing off. Same-day workshop slots are usually available; book ahead for mobile visits.

What happens after installation if something stops working?

The installation record makes aftercare fast: the repair & maintenance team knows exactly what was fitted, where, and how, so diagnosis starts from knowledge instead of exploration. Warranty faults are made good at no charge; wear items like backup batteries are serviced over the device’s life; and when you sell the vehicle, the transfer service moves your tracker — and your history — to the next one.
